Blastoff!

We are finally hitting hit the road for our cross-country trip to California. But first, this happened:

Tearing down a moldering garage before your 3,500 mile road trip

We've been waiting three years to tear down this very sick building and put up a new structure with a tiny apartment in the back. Yesterday afternoon we got word that demolition was going to happen ahead of schedule, as in 8AM today! So we delayed our departure long enough to see the first few bites of the shovel. We kind of hate to miss the whole project but we can't put off the California trip and we sure didn't want to lose our place with our excellent contractor.  So he's moving ahead without us and our incredibly helpful friends Nigel & Terrie are running interference in our absence. 

Anyway.

The great Task Wall has been conquered, with only one simple job remaining...

The car is loaded, the dog walked and watered and snugged into her anti-anxiety nest in the back seat, snacks secured within reach, carry-in luggage for motel stops accessible in the wayback, the box on top stuffed so tight Mike is afraid to open it. And as a last gesture, Mike runs and grabs six more bottles of wine, because you never know.

Off we head into the unknown.
